Garden roses for an English country style wedding
Sam and Rebecca chose the beautiful Moxhull Hall, Warwickshire as their wedding venue and wanted relaxed, English country style wedding flowers to help them create a relaxed, but classic feel to their day.
Their reception at this manor house hotel was to be in a large white marquee, with a ceiling lit up with a star field of twinkling lights. They wanted to add some height to their table flowers, so we chose to use my cylindrical lanterns as table centrepieces and decorated some of them at height, and some at table level by setting them inside rings of perfumed roses. This enabled us to create visual interest at different levels throughout the large space.

The wedding venue
It’s always lovely to discover new wedding venue and this was my first time at Moxhull Hall, a victorian manor house set in 9 acres of garden, located close to The Belfry golf club in Sutton Coldfield. And on a sunny day in July, it was the perfect location for Rebecca and Sam’s relaxed wedding celebrations.
Bespoke wedding flowers – table centrepieces
As flowers were going to be an important part of their day, they opted for my bespoke wedding flowers service and chose to hire my cylindrical lanterns to use as the basis for their table centrepieces – partly because they create a statement even on their own, and also because they’d carry through the theme of twinkling lights at lower levels in the marquee. My bespoke wedding flowers option gives you access to all my wedding prop hire, container hire and set up services so that you don’t worry about any of these details or work out what to do with a fleet of surplus items after the wedding!
The candles used in the lanterns were battery operated wax versions: great from my point of view because they are kind to the flowers – especially those on top of the lanterns when real candles would be a no-no, and great from a venue point of view as real candles can be judged an unacceptable fire risk. If you’re planning to use real candles at your venue, always remember to check with your wedding co-ordinator in advance as different wedding venues have different policies on their use.
Top table wedding flowers
Sam and Rebecca also wanted to have a statement arrangement on their traditional top table which faced their wedding reception guests, so opted for a foliage runner with wispy asparagus fern fronds, filled with scented garden roses. This ran the length of their top table and provided an amazingly perfumed memory for their day.

Milk churns to welcome wedding guests
To welcome their wedding guests to the ceremony, Rebecca and Sam opted for two large milk churns to flank the entrance doors. Milk churns or large urns are really versatile signature arrangements for your wedding flowers as they make a great visual statement and yet are easy to move around and repurpose throughout the course of your day. It’s a great idea to do this to get maximum value from your wedding flowers – why not enjoy them for the whole of it, rather than giving them only a brief moment in the spotlight at the start of proceedings?

Finding new wedding suppliers – wedding cakes
As well as finding fabulous new venues, bespoke weddings also introduce me to amazing wedding suppliers and Sam and Rebecca’s was no exception. Their wedding day was my first meeting with the incredible cake-making talent of Ben The Cake Man. He’d created a semi-naked cake with different flavoured sponge cake layers and his artistry with the creation of the ‘log’ on which it sat (complete with S+R graffiti), completely blew me away. This ‘log’ was in fact, just another cake layer! I think it will be a long time before this incredible cake is surpassed as an icon in my mind! It was an absolute joy to be given the opportunity to create fresh flower posies to decorate it and to capture it with my camera.
